The American Soul
Faith, Vigilance, And The Moral Stakes Of A Nation
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Ready or not, life tests our foundations. We open with a frank call to stay awake—spiritually, morally, and civically—and trace how watchfulness shapes everything from our marriages to our ballots. When we neglect small duties, crises don’t come from nowhere; they grow in the shadows of our inattention.
We challenge a narrow view of fidelity by asking where our best energy goes each day. If screens and side pursuits get more affection than our spouse, trust erodes by inches. Gratitude and repentance aren’t churchy buzzwords here; they are practical tools that recalibrate love, restore respect, and steady a home. From there we pivot to the wider arena: discernment in noisy times, the danger of chasing spectacle, and why integrity is a stronghold when outrage sells. The point isn’t to fear the future but to cultivate character that can carry weight.
History backs the case. We bring in plainspoken wisdom from the Founders to show that paper constitutions don’t preserve liberty without people who prize virtue. Laws outline the form; citizens supply the substance. To ground this, we highlight a searing Medal of Honor story—courage advancing under fire—and confront difficult contemporary examples that demand moral clarity, not slogans. Through it all, we keep a steady focus on hope that acts: honoring marriage, choosing truth over ease, and voting from conviction rather than comfort.
If this conversation sparks something in you, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. What habit will you change this week to strengthen your home and your country?

Honoring Marriage And Fidelity
SPEAKER_01And to your son Jesus Christ in your time. Marriage verse for today, Hebrews 13, 4. Marriage must be honored in every respect with no cheating on the relationship, because God will judge the sexually immoral person and the person who commits adultery.
SPEAKER_02Cheating on the relationship. I wonder the older I get, the more I wonder.
SPEAKER_01If you are not fulfilling your roles and responsibilities as a husband or a wife, if you're giving more of your time and attention and affection to screens, workouts, friends, family, phone, social media, hobbies.
SPEAKER_02Is that really any different than giving more of your time and energy and effort and affection to another human being besides your spouse on the individual basis?
Justice, Gratitude, And Repentance
SPEAKER_01Mark thirteen, fourteen through thirty seven. The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing where he should not be. Reader, pay attention. Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down to the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat, how terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. And pray that your flight will not be in winter, for there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again. In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days. Then if anyone tells you, look, here is the Messiah, or there he is, don't believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones. Watch out, I have warned you about this ahead of time. At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory, and he will send out his angels together, his chosen ones from all over the earth, from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son Himself, only the Father knows. And since you don't know when that time will come, be on guard. Stay alert. The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. You too must keep watch, for you don't know when the master of the household will return, in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. Don't let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. I say to you what I say to everyone. Watch for him. Psalm fifty one through twenty three. The Lord, the mighty one, is God, and he has spoken. He has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets. From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty God shines in glorious radiance. Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him. He calls on the heavens above and the earth below to witness the judgment of his people. Bring my faithful people to me, those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices. Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God Himself will be the judge. O my people, listen as I speak, here are my charges against you, O Israel. I am God, your God. I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer, but I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens, for all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains and all the animals of the field are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you were in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. But God says to the wicked, Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant, for you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash? How often do we do that, folks? How often do I treat God's words as trash?
SPEAKER_02Do I treat people that way instead of loving my neighbor as myself?

Voting, Virtue, And Founders’ Warnings
SPEAKER_01When you see thieves you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers. Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies. You sit around and slander your brother, your own mother's son. While you did all this I remained silent, and you thought I didn't care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you. Repent all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you. But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. Proverbs ten, twenty-nine and thirty. The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked. The godly will never be disturbed, but the wicked will be removed from the land. Countryside, if you're looking for a family-friendly middle grade read, if you check out the Countryside series, I would appreciate it. It's the first book and the second book. And if you enjoy them, if you would leave a review online somewhere, I would be very grateful for that. Also on the podcast, if you feel like you're getting something out of it, more often than not, if you have five or ten dollars you can spare each month, there's a link where you can set up that donation, and I would be very grateful for that. That is helps a lot. June 12, 2016, Orlando, Florida, Omar Mateen, a Muslim of American birth, walked into the Pulse nightclub, opened fire with an assault rifle and a handgun, killed 49 people, injured 53 others. Ironic thing here so often to me is the umbrella that the left and Islam have managed to kind of create, right? Really leftism. They pull Muslims in, but Muslims don't have any use for the LGBTQ group, right? They pull women in, but Muslims don't have any use for women. The feminists don't have any use for women, right? It's uh it's just ironic. I guess just ignorance. I don't know. Medal of Honor for today, Bobby Evan Brown Jr., Captain, World War II, Charlie Company, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army, October 8th, 1944. Crucifix Hill, Germany. He commanded Charlie Company, 18th Infantry Regiment on 8 October, 1944, when it with the Ranger Platoon of the 1st Battalion attacked Crucifix Hill, a key point in the enemy's defense of Aachen, Germany. As the leading rifle platoon assaulted the first of many pillboxes studying the rising ground, heavy fire from a flanking emplacement raked it. An intense artillery barrage fell on the American troops, which had been pinned down in an exposed position. Seeing that the pillboxes must be neutralized to prevent the slaughter of his men, Captain Brown obtained a pole charge and started forward alone toward the first pillbox about a hundred yards away. Hugging the ground while enemy bullets whipped around him, he crawled and then ran toward the aperture of the fortification, rammed his explosive inside, and jumped back as the pillbox and its occupants were blown up. He rejoined the assault platoon, secured another pole charge, and led the way toward the next pillbox under continuous artillery mortar automatic and small arms fire. He again ran forward and placed his charge in the enemy fortification, knocking it out. He then found that fire from a third pillbox was pinning down his company, so he returned to his men, secured another charge, and began to creep and crawl toward the hostile emplacement. With heroic bravery, he disregarded opposing fire and worked ahead in the face of bullets streaming from the pillbox. Finally reaching his objective, he stood up and inserted his explosive, silencing the enemy. He was wounded by a mortar shell but refused medical attention and, despite heavy hostile fire, moved swiftly among his troops, exhorting and instructing them in subduing powerful opposition. Later, realizing the need for information of enemy activity beyond the hill, Captain Brown went out alone to reconnoitre. He observed possible routes of enemy approach and several times deliberately drew enemy fire to locate gun emplacements. Twice more on this self-imposed mission he was wounded. But he succeeded in securing information which led to the destruction of several enemy guns and enabled his company to throw back two powerful counterattacks with heavy losses. Only when Company C's position was completely secure did he permit treatment of his three wounds. By his indomitable courage, fearless leadership, and outstanding skill as a soldier, Captain Brown contributed in great measure to the taking of Crucifix Hill, a vital link in the American line encircling H.M. Akin. Accredited to Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, not awarded posthumously, presented August 23, 1945 at the White House by President Harry S. Truman. More on September 2nd, 1903, Dublin County, Georgia. Died November 8th, 1971, Highland Falls, New York. Buried Arlington National Cemetery, 46, Tac 10, 21, Tac 17, Arlington, Virginia. Bobby Evan Brown. 6 July 2008, Sandela Canwal, Jonesboro, Georgia. Twenty-five-year-old woman was strangled to death by her father, a Muslim immigrant from Pakistan in an honor killing after she left an arranged marriage, divorced, and began a new relationship against family wishes. So just a little bit more today, folks, a couple quotes about voting. I figured since we have been voting over the last week or so across most of the country, uh John Francis Mercer, one of the Constitutional Convention delegates. It is a great mistake to suppose that the paper we are to propose will govern the United States. It is the men whom it will bring into the government and interests they have in maintaining it that are to govern them. The paper will only mark out the mode and the form. Men are the substance and must do the business.
SPEAKER_02William Patterson, signer of the Constitution, Supreme Court Justice, quoting the Bible.
SPEAKER_01One more. Reverend William Penn talking about when he was creating the government of Pennsylvania. Governments like clocks go from the motion men give them. And as governments are made and moved by men, so by them they are ruined too. Wherefore governments rather depend upon men than men upon governments.
SPEAKER_02Let men be good, and the government cannot be bad. But if men be bad, let the government be never so good.
Closing Prayer And Blessing
SPEAKER_01They will endeavor to warp and spoil it to their own turn. Great resource again. Often use it. Founder's Bible, also Patriots Bible. We'll read a couple more of those out of here. There's some other quotes. Another one from Noah Webster that we've read before, just talking about voting. But folks, the whole point is the real struggle today in America is not against Iran, China, North Korea. Nothing external, it's internal. And it all depends on our virtue, our morality, our willingness to follow the principles of Christ or not. Everything hinges on that. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the stay our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families. God bless your marriages if you're married. God bless your nation, wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
